Art Span NOLA’s Travel Grant is awarded to one Gulf Coast artist annually through an open call for proposals. The selected artist will collaborate with an artist in another city, with the opportunity to create new, site-specific work that reflects both locations. Working closely with Art Span NOLA mentors, the artist will refine and develop their concept. The program culminates in an exhibition that engages contemporary topics, fostering artistic dialogue and strengthening community connections across different locations.
Purpose
This program dismantles barriers that restrict access to creative resources, and provides diverse pathways for artists to advance professionally. Through the residency and travel grant program, we help artists reach new levels of creative engagement, foster cross-cultural collaboration, and build lasting connections with other artistic communities.
Application Process
The application process involves identifying the specific needs of an artist’s practice, such as exhibition space, live/work space, mentorship, or networking opportunities. We encourage applicants to articulate how the grant or residency will support their creative development, enhance their artistic practice, and broaden their professional network. The process concludes with an artist report, which details the outcomes of the grant or stipend, including how it has positively impacted their work, fostered collaboration, and contributed to their overall growth as an artist. This report serves as both a reflection on the experience and a valuable resource for future artistic opportunities.
