Still Motion:
The Festival of Photography in Film
Still/Motion celebrates the intersections of photography and cinema, and features film scholars, filmmakers, and works that blend still and moving images.
Launched in 2023, this festival deepens the conversation around visual storytelling and explores the evolving role of photography within the context of filmmaking.
The Festival of Photography in Film celebrated photography at its intersection with cinema, especially as it relates to other fascinating subjects: history, mystery, family, humanity, global and local environment, and cutout animation. This one-day festival at the Broad Theater showcased three feature films, one Louisiana short film, and a special event with New Orleans filmmaker Simon Blake. Special guests included photography curator/director Trisha Ziff, and PhotoNOLA award recipient and short film subject Ben Depp. The films featured photographic works of Sebastião Salgado, Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, David “Chim” Seymour, Joel-Peter Witkin, and Ben Depp.
